Parents spend £225m on pushchairs

Parents are prepared to splash out on high-end baby and nursery goods despite current economic difficulties, new research has revealed.

Sales of prams and pushchairs have increased by 13% in the last year, and these items now account for 30% of spending on baby and nursery products, according to a report from respected market analyst Mintel.

Pushchair style

Pushchairs are more than a way to transport your child. For many, they are a style statement, with brands such as Bugaboo launching a range of limited edition colours for the spring season, and Mothercare offering its new sporty ‘Urbanite’ pushchair.

Which? reviews will show you how the pushchair looks - but our tests also ensure that they’re comfortable for the parent and child, and practical to use on and off the city streets.

We’ve reviewed more than 150 models in our pushchairs review, including the Bugaboo Cameleon and Mothercare Spin.

Baby monitor test results just in

We test dozens of pushchairs every year, as part of our growing number of baby product reviews. We've just published results for a range of the latest baby monitors.

New technology has made a huge change to what you can expect from a baby monitor; some can keep track of the room temperature, and others allow you to stream the video live on Skype.

See what our experts thought of the latest models in our baby monitors review.

Grandparents also spending

Although style and design have been key factors in the growth of nursery product sales, sales of car seats have also increased by 12% in the last two years - partly due to the increase in two-car households, and the army of grandparent babysitters who want the convenience of having their own car seats.

Bebecar unveils new retro combination pram Pushchair

Bebecar Stylo Prive pram

Bebecar’s newest launch, the Stylo Privé, is a classically-styled pram with reversible pushchair seat and 'smooth sprung' chassis suspension.

Bebecar says the Stylo Privé combination pram is suitable from birth and features a basket-weave fabric and leatherette trims.

The traditional pram chassis can be used with the lie-flat pram body, a pushchair seat - which you can fit forward-facing, or with your baby facing you - and a carrycot. It's also compatible with the Bebecar Easy Maxi car seat, sold separately, if you wanted to use it as an all-in-one travel system

We've already reviewed four Bebecar pushchairs in the Which? test labs, including the Icon Air Tyre off-roader buggy and the Ip-op travel system. Find out how our lab experts and panel of parent testers rated them in our full pushchairs review.

Bugaboo has achieved the highest customer satisfaction score from pushchair owners in a new survey by Which?.

Which? members can now get a unique insight into how owners rate their pushchair brand, based on a survey of over 1,000 parents.

Which? home editor Liz Edwards comments: ‘There are plenty of things to think about when choosing the right pushchair for you and your baby, and often friends’ recommendations can be helpful.

‘But instead of taking advice from just one friend, you can now use our pushchair satisfaction data to get a unique insight into pushchair brands based on the experiences of more than 1,000 parents.’

Which? members can log in to see the full scores on our new pushchair owners’ views page . If you're not a member, you can try Which? for just £1 and get instant access to all our product reviews and ratings.

Pushchair survey results

In January 2011, we surveyed 1,005 parents with children under three years old to find out how satisfied they were with their pushchair(s), and whether they would recommend their pushchair brand to a friend.

Bugaboo achieved an impressive 77% score from its customers, while the least popular brands scored a poor 53%.

The Which? customer score is a combination of overall satisfaction and how likely a product owner says they are to recommend that brand to a friend. To receive a Which? customer score, brands must have a minimum of 30 owners in our survey.

Bugaboo pushchairs

We’ve tested three Bugaboo pushchairs in the Which? lab and with our parent panel – the Bugaboo Cameleon, Bugaboo Bee and Bugaboo Bee Plus.

See how well these and more than 150 other pushchairs have performed in our tough tests, plus what our parent panel testers thought of them, by visiting our full pushchair reviews.

Here we rate each pushchair on a wide variety of criteria, including comfort to push, handling quality, ease of folding and ease of using on public transport.

Bugaboo may get a high customer score, but its pushchairs don't come cheap. What do you think of expensive pushchairs? Is it worth splashing out over £1,000 for a posh buggy?

Maclaren Quest Sport Pushchair

Baby deal of the week - Maclaren Quest Sport

Which? has been scouring the web this week for the best online price on the Maclaren Quest Sport stroller.

The Maclaren Quest Sport is a basic lightweight four-wheel stroller, which is easy to use and great for whizzing around town.

The RRP for this stroller is £195 and Littlewoods is currently selling it for £190, but we've spotted several cheaper deals online.

The best deal we found was at Baby & Co, where you can snap up the black/scarlet stroller for just £131.99 – a discount of over £50 – while Kiddicare is selling the stroller for £139.99.

Maclaren Quest Sport pushchair

At 6.1kg, the Maclaren Quest Sport is a lighter than average pushchair, and being very light means that manoeuvring around obstacles poses no problems.

Find our what our lab experts and parent panel testers made of the Maclaren Quest Sport pushchair in our full pushchairs review - including whether it made the grade to be recommended as a Which? Best Buy pushchair.

We'd suggest you try a pushchair out before buying it - so you can get a proper feel for how it handles, folds and the amount of storage space it offers. Some baby shops on the high street may be willing to price match a deal you've seen online.
